We’re two weeks out and load-ins have already started. It’s going to be such a pretty show, if what I’m already seeing is any indication. Alisanne Frew (Alisanne Wonderland) has some exceptional pieces including a to-die-for double sided patisserie serving table. Its provenance? La Ladurée, the premiere patisserie in Paris. With its signature green marble top. I’m as green with envy of anyone who has space to accommodate its 7.5’ length. Can’t wait to see it all decorated. Sweets from Paris will soon arrive. I’ve been told they’re not for sampling. Drat!
The months leading up to the show have been full of conversations with Julie Dodson / Dodson Interiors. Her brainchild “Designer Dream Spree” will launch Sept. 24-26 with A-listed designers arriving to shop the Round Top show, including The Compound. On the 25th, DDS presents their “Exceptional Discoveries” Symposium. We are delighted to be the sponsor of this event for the third time. It’s always informative and uber fun. How could it not be with Carson Kressley moderating, this time alongside VERANDA magazine.
Tickets are $35, and once again, all proceeds benefit area animal shelters, Julie’s “pet” project through her non-profit organization that raises money for rescuing animals across Fayette and Washington counties. I so admire her passion.
We will be welcoming three new dealers this Fall. All specialize in French antiques (I think I could organize a branch of Alliance Française at The Compound!) Every one of them brings something different to the show mix; it’s an incredible cross-section of fine European antiques, for sure, and those more primitive. Included in the line up will be Francois & Co. (they’re not only new to The Compound, but to Round Top.) They feature antique French limestone mantels, and reproduce the same antique designs in limestone from their studio in Atlanta. Then there is The French Connection and Antiquaire de France. Both are well known for their exceptional quality and style sense. Can’t wait to see how they will each use The Compound’s beautiful big barns as backdrop to all their prized pieces and accouterment.
We’ve had rain! Picture me doing a happy dance, because the crunch underfoot will soon soften with the past due and oh so welcome inches of hydration. Hoping it also bodes well for our temperatures so that our lovely Grove can be enjoyed to its fullest. Here, healthy, freshly prepared gourmet lunches including salads, sandwiches, and homemade desserts by Simply D’Lish Gourmet can be savored, along with fine wine and domestic and import beers from Vin 114 Wine Bar.
Our Gazebo will be decked out this show as an Espresso bar with quick tasty snacks, fresh grab-n-go sandwiches, natural herb-based snow cones (last show I loved the lavender/lemon!) and other homemade treats like rosemary/parmesan popcorn by Picnic on the Green.
Week two will bring Teton Camp Creek BBQ to the show, all the way from Wyoming. It’s true Texas BBQ, though. Owners Vicki & Shannon have recently retired to Wyoming from here, taking their 20 years of cooking sought after Texas BBQ with them. You’ll find them in The Grove area, cooking up a storm alongside live musicians who will be performing daily from 2-5 September 28 through the 5th.
Oh, and we will be having two late night shopping nights…until 7:30 pm…both WEDNESDAYS of the Show… Kathy Johnston
