UNIQUITIES – Calgary, Alberta, Canada
Doug, Julia & Ben Shantz
The Shantz’s have always held that the world would be a greener and more enlightened place if we salvaged more and preserved our architectural history.
The Company Uniquities itself came to be when, in 1992, the Shantz’s were frustrated with the lack of availability of architectural salvage and the architectural antiques as they were renovating their 1912 home in Calgary. To Great Britain they went, as Julia had grown up in Wales with its Roman amphitheaters, Norman castles, Georgian mews and Victorian shopping arcades.Since those early days, sourcing trips have expanded throughout Europe and in the United States.
With an insatiable love for the rusty, crusty and dusty, Julia & Doug have climbed fences, rummaged in dirty barns, attended auctions, obsessed over the work of trades long forgotten, listened, learned and absorbed. Seek them out during the show to tap that wellspring of knowledge, right along with the beautiful architectural, garden and decorative antiques they have brought to the Show.
